About Extrawheel

The Extrawheel bicycle panniers Wayfarer 5o liters   in our test come from a Polish producer from Harklowa near Nowy Targ at the feet of Gorce mountains. The seat of the producer is located very near to VeloDunajec – one of the most beautiful bike routes in Poland.

The flag product of Extrawheel is an expedition bicycle trailer. Unique shake-control mechanisms have been applied to this one-wheel trailer solution and thanks to a wide range of adapters it can be fitted to any bike.

TheExtrawheel trailer has an option to transport a spare wheel, so that you can stay sure of your backup options on an expedition. It is a solution useful for long bike journeys and excursions where you need to carry more luggage.

Extrawheel has also an offer for panniers and waterproof bags created especially for the trailer. They are also involved in the production of advertisment trailers.

Extrawheel panniers

Extrawheel has recently started their production of panniers dedicated to long bicycle journeys and shorter excursions.

Their 50-litre panniers make a very good impression after unboxing. You can see the precision of sewing and quality material. Red-grey remains the only available colour for now – the strong colouring may be useful for your safety in longer trips.

The panniers have reflector elements in front and in the back, which also is a road-safety-enhancing bonus. Their regular shape allows for installation on both sides of the carrier. Hence, there is no left-right division.

The seams and the undercoat tape are solid and well-attached. Their functionality will be proven in a longer live conditions test.

The system of closure/rolling with an additional sealing bar is a very simple and reliable solution. You will have enough water-proof qualities and with careful rolling even full submersion readiness.

The buckles are equally well-made. They hold fast and they won’t let go even with significant force use.

The carrier installation system is KlickFix. It is easy and carefully thought-out ensuring stability. The panniers won’t fall off easily, so you can stay sure on bumpy roads.

The panniers are made of poliester. This makes them easy to keep clean, the material itself being of acceptable quality. The price of these panniers stay quite competitive. For better damage resistance you can also buy a version made of cordura.

The capacity is either 25 or 50 litres. The smaller set is positioned for shorter excursions or it may serve as front panniers for larger bike expeditions. The bigger set will help you in a longer journey and the capacity can be easily increased by water-proof bags to be attached to the carrier. For a long journey, the capacity might turn out to be insufficient. We would suggest getting closer to 60 litres.
All depends on the size and weight of your luggage.

Some may be deterred by a lack of additional pockets, although the famous rule “simplicity is king” can convince some sceptics. For longer trips this IS important.

Summary

In our opinion Extrawheel is a product worth some attention. They are very competitive when it comes to price and the EU-made label might add attractiveness.
There will be more Extrawheel testing to come – we do intend to set off for a few weeks with theses pannier attached to our carrier.

See you on the road!
